Description of the theft
On October 4th, I rode my bicycle to the University of Calgary, as I do every day. I securely locked my bicycle in front of the Information and Communication Technologies (ICT) building at approximately 9:00 a.m. I went to my office on the third floor of the ICT building to work. Due to a busy schedule, I stayed late, continuing to work until midnight.
At around 12:45 a.m. on October 5th, after finishing my work, I went downstairs to retrieve my bicycle. To my shock, I discovered that my bicycle was missing, and the lock had been broken and left behind. I took the broken lock with me and went home.
The next day, October 5th, I returned to the university and contacted campus security to report the theft. I explained the situation to them, and they reviewed footage from security cameras. The security team informed me that a homeless person had broken the lock and stolen the bicycle before I had gone downstairs.
