Description of the theft
My husband witnessed the theft. Here is his account:
Around 8 a.m., I was leaving for work, heading to get my bike. As I entered the garage from the lobby, I noticed a UHaul van parked in the space nearest the bike cage. The van was one of the small, city type vans.
Two men were coming out of the bike cage. They were both white, in their mid-twenties. One was wearing black pants, a dark T-shirt and a dark baseball cap. He possibly had a short beard/stubble. The other was wearing black pants, a black hoodie and a black, flat-brimmed baseball cap with a large white logo. As I got to the bike cage door, they were getting into the van. I was a little suspicious of them, so I said "good morning" to them, and they responded in kind, smiling.
I went into the bike cage, noticed that my wife's bike was missing from the rack and turned to question the two men. They were both in the van and had started the engine. I shouted at them, and they pulled away. I exited the bike cage and ran after the van, shouting at them to stop, but the van exited the garage and sped off.
Two maintenance guys from the apartment community were in the garage. I told them that the men in the van had stolen my wife's bike. They said that they had seen the two thieves, and assumed that they were movers waiting for a client.
