Description of the theft
Tonight, I was inside the Oakland Downtown YMCA for over an hour before I realized I had left my bike unlocked by the lower racks at street level. I raced outside, found my bike untouched, and secured it with my Kryptonite Messenger Chain and Kryptonite padlock. I returned into the YMCA to shower and shave, and when I came back out, the bike was gone and my clipped chain was left on the ground. Sad turn of luck.
The YMCA explained that there has been a rash of bike theft outside their building recently. I suspect that my unlocked bike was being watched and thought to be a trap. Once I actually locked the bike, it was gone within minutes!
